Meet Jordan, Jonathan, Eric and Eddy!

I met Jordan and Jonathan in 2022 during volunteering for swimming lessons in Grenada, West Indies.

Since 2023 I have been supporting them and their two older cousins, Eric and Eddy, with sailing lessons in the local sailing club.

A lot has happened since they started sailing lessons 1.5 years ago! All of them are able to sail the Optimist dingy (the beginner boat in sailing for children and teenagers) by themselves. Eric and Eddy sail Bic and Laser class which fits their age and size. They experience club life, team spirit and sailing competitions instead of just hanging around.

Eric has made it into the selected team of four teenagers who get support and additional training sessions by the Olympic Committee of Grenada. He also started sailing regattas on a J24, a boat class for 4 sailors on one boat.

What is the benefit?

Grenada is a small, beautiful but not very rich island in the Caribbean Sea. Opportunities are limited, only a small number of people can afford to go to college or even to university. Many Grenadians never leave their island.

Learning how to sail will broaden the opportunities in the boy’s future lifes. They can find a job on a boat, teach sailing, become a professional sailor, just to mention a few. Discipline and teamwork skills will be a plus for any job.

100% of the donation will go directly to the boys – in the form of sailing lessons, transportation, personal equipment like sailing boots, shorts, UV-shirts, sun-hats. All kind of things their mothers can’t affort.

I also support them with healthy food on the sailing days (yes, this is not always guaranteed at home) and with doctor’s appointments. (Most Grenadians don’t have health insurance, doctor’s visits are rare.)

I will also start to build up a small reserve for when they finish school. They are all excellent students and when it’s time to apply for a scholarship abroad, maybe I can help with a first plane ticket to this new chapter in life.

Are you interested in investing a bigger amount and would like to show your good deed on your company’s website or on social media? As a private person I can not provide a donation receipt but I am happy to provide high quality image material and more information. Write to me!

What the boys say

It's fun and I can learn to be a sailor. I am hoping to be able to teach children to sail and become a sailor and sail around the world.
–– Jonathan, 12

I love sailing because it can be technical and difficult at times and that's why. Training to handle those situations is the fun part.
–– Eric, 15

I like sailing because I like the sea, sailing is fun and adventurous, I like learning new sports.
–– Jordan, 9

How much is good? Honestly, anything is great. 50€ supports all four boys with the basic lessons and transport for a month, everything above will be used for material and future needs. 100% of the money will be used to support the boys.
